Farming for Wildlife Since 1945
Nestled in the prairie of western Minnesota's Ottertail County, John and Betty Boen just completed their 71st fall harvest on the couple's 1200-acr e farm in Norwegian Grove Township. Working with Pheasants Forever's Farm Bill biologist partnership, the Boen's have enrolled various conservation practices - a living snow fence, prairie wetlands, farmable buffers, filter strips and sediment basins - to supplement and protect the farm's rich topsoil that will be handed down to the next generation.
Honored with the " Conservationist of the Year " award on two separate occasions by the West Ottertail Soil & Water Conservation District, the Boen family continues to help pioneer new conservation practices in their region, including the recent use of radish cover crops. Now in their mid- 80's, John and Betty still find satisfaction when springing into the tractor to admire a property that truly defines the meaning of land stewardship.
